Tonight 8 PM for another lovely evening at the The Ginger Man, 5607 Morningside. Partly cloudy with a chance of cake. See you there.
Monday, 21 June 2010: Midyear’s Day at The Hobbit Cafe
Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on June 21st, 2010
According to some reckonings of the Shire (Hobbit) calendar, today marks the either the first or second day of one of the year’s two most important festivals, Lithe. I’m sure I don’t really know how to celebrate it–except to eat and drink at that most Hobbitish of restaurants, The Hobbit Cafe at 2243 Richmond Avenue. While it’s true that not all who wander are lost, try to be there around 8 PM and let us know if you’re planning on being there so we can reserve the proper table.
Hans’ Day in Court: The Report

Here are a couple of reports on yesterday’s goings on. Apparently it will continue today.
Monday, 14 June 2010: Bear-able Beer at the Petrol Station
Posted by mike | Beer, Meetings | Posted on June 14th, 2010
Come out to 985 Wakefield in idyllic Garden Oaks at 8 PM. As part of his tour of the Houston area’s better beer bars, Richard Norgrove, the founder of Bear Republic, will be on hand to pass out. Oh wait, he’ll be on hand to pass out free samples. The weather should cooperate for outdoor seating, which might turn out to be important, if a lot of folks come out for this very special evening.
Bear Republic has a number of fine beers; their Hop Rod Rye is one of my top three favorite rye pale ales.
Hans’ gets a day in commissioners’ court
Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on June 9th, 2010
When we were at the Bier Haus on Monday, there was a notice that their City of Houston liquor license is up for review next Tuesday. Given their recent legal struggle for survival, they could probably use some moral support. So, if you’ve the time and the inclination, here are the details. If you would be willing to speak on their behalf, you should probably give them a call so they can prepare.
9:00 AM CDT 15th June 2010: 1001 Preston, 9th Floor, Commissioners’ Court Room.
Upcoming: Houston Firkin Fest 24-26 June

Lots of interesting cask beers will be showing up at three places we know pretty well: http://barleyvine.blogspot.com/2010/06/houston-firkin-fest.html
Monday, 7 June 2010: Reason with Hurricane Season at Hans’ Bierhaus
Posted by john | Meetings | Posted on June 7th, 2010
The first Monday in June means the first Monday of hurricane season, and there’s no storm brewing in the Atlantic basin. Additionally, there are no sickly sweet rum drinks at Hans’ Bier Haus. Just numerous beers on tap, many of them good.
There’s an 80% chance of no rain tonight, and a 95% chance of good beer. So come out at 8 PM and sit under the awning (or huddle in the bar and listen to bad country music on the jukebox, if you’re feeling a little antisocial).
The Bier Haus is located at 2523 Quenby (east of Kirby, south of Bissonnett, behind the Firestone). Parking: You may park in the IBC bank lot across Quenby, but do not park in the spaces adjacent to the ATM. Do not park in the metal fenced lot behind the Firestone as that lot is locked.
