Monday, 21 February 2011: Guitar Man cupcakes at the Petrol Station

On this day in 1967, Elvis Presley began recording the soundtrack to the movie Clambake.  The first track on that album was a cover of Jerry Reed‘s “Guitar Man.” On this date in 1981, a remix of The King’s version of the song hit #43 on the UK charts;  Jerry Reed was 43 at the time.  Coincidence?  I think not.  It just gives you goosebumps, doesn’t it?

petrol station houstonTonight, we’ll be at The Petrol Station, at 985 Wakefield in pastoral Garden Oaks, at 8 PM.  With 35 craft beers on tap, there’s bound to be something to pair quite well to banana cupcakes with peanut butter cream cheese frosting.  The cupcakes are not really in honor of The King or the Snowman; they’re actually in honor of Sam McJunkin’s birthday last week.  He’s a good bit younger than Jerry Reed was in 1981, by the way!
