Monday, 27 June 2011: Celebrate the Dog Days of Summer at The Boneyard

Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on June 27th, 2011

Technically, the dog days won’t start for a week or two, but we’ll still have a siriusly good time tonight at The Boneyard, 8150 Washington Ave, Houston’s only dog park bar.  Bring Fido so he can enjoy the 7,000 sq ft fenced-in dog park, and you can enjoy a beer or glass of wine from their bar.  See you there at 8 PM.

Monday, 20 June 2011: Good drink smithing at Anvil

Posted by john | Meetings | Posted on June 20th, 2011

While we await the opening down the street of The Hay Merchant, for now, Anvil Bar and Refuge, 1424 Westheimer, is the best bet on lower Westheimer for a good beer.  See you there at 8 PM.  As always, take note of the local parking reality, and stop by for a draught or a cocktail.

13 June 2011: A Visit to Liberty (Space) Station

Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on June 13th, 2011

Tonight, the Interantional Space Station will be visible over Houston.  Given our weather of late, it should be prime viewing time.  What better way to try out a new Monday night destination.  And although Liberty Station, at 2101 Washington Ave, celebrated their one-year anniversary over the weekend, this is the first visit for the Diasporites.  Nine taps (regularly and carefully rotated), a full bar,a  spacious patio, and a reportedly laid-back vibe compared to other spots in the corridor.  Feel free to bring your grub in, or take your chances–there may or may not be a food truck on the lot tonight.  See you there at 8 PM.

Monday, 6 June 2011: Bitter Times at The Petrol Station

Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on June 6th, 2011

Just how bitter are you?  Not bitter, you say, just consumed by a gnawing hate that’s eating away at your gut until you can taste the bile in your mouth? Either way, come out tonight to the Petrol Station, at 985 Wakefield in war-ravaged Garden Oaks.  As the only non-Saucer establishment in Texas that’s competing in Stone Brewing’s Most Bitter Bar Challenge 2011,  they have one week to serve up as many pints of Stone’s ‘hop-forward’ styles as possible.  Somehow the various Bastards don’t make the list.   Whatever.   I’m not going to be bitter about—wait, I think I will be. That’s the whole point.

Anyway, come on out tonight at 8 PM and show just how bitter you can be in the area-that-isn’t-quite-the-heights.  Check out the recently-leased parking lot across the street.  And if you’re feelin’ all Polyanna/Pangloss, there are lots of other beers you can drink.   Just be ready for us to sneer across the picnic table at you.  Jeesh.
