Monday, 26 September 2011: Legendary American Drinks at Anvil Bar & Refuge

Posted by john | Meetings | Posted on September 26th, 2011

On this day in 1774, John Chapman, AKA Johnny Appleseed, was born.  On this same day in 1820, Daniel Boone died.  Today, then, would be a perfect day for a hard cider or a bourbon cocktail, wouldn’t it?  Anvil Bar and Refuge, at 1424 Westheimer, is the best bet on lower Westheimer for a good beer (and, very rarely, cider) with one of the finest tap systems in the city (at least until sibling Hay Merchant arrives).  They also make mixed drinks with bourbon, rye, gin, and a host of spirits you probably have never heard of (but not vodka: hipsters hate vodka).  See you there at 8 PM.  As always, take note of the local parking reality, and stop by for a draught, a cocktail or both.

Monday, 19 September 2011: Talk like a Pirate at The Boneyard

Admittedly, The Boneyard, 8150 Washington Ave, Houston’s only dog park bar, doesn’t have much to do with pirates.  Or ninjas. They do have good beer and a 7,000 sq ft fenced-in dog park.  See you there at 8 PM.

Monday, 12 September 2011: Bier Haus in the Middle of Our Street

Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on September 12th, 2011

Brush off your bocce bowling skills and join us at Hans’ Bier Haus (2523 Quenby St. at Kirby Dr.).  And even if you can’t tell your boccino from your pallino (hint: they’re the same thing), there should be beer to quaff.  Street parking only, in front of our castle and our keep.  Meet up there at 8 PM; to do otherwise would be (ahem) Madness.
