Monday, 28 January 2013: Very Early Pre-Game at Hans’ Bier Haus

Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on January 28th, 2013

Hans' Bier HausYou may be prepping for the big game this coming weekend, basking in the glow of the non-amatuer bowl this past weekend, or blissfully oblivious to any games with rigorously-guarded intellectual property associated with them.  In any event, stop by Han’s Bier Haus, 2523 Quenby, at 8 PM for a beer, some bocce ball (a different kind of bowl game altogether), and some bench time on the deck. Park on the street and bring Rover if you want, as Hans’ is dog-friendly.

Liberty StationEven if you had to work today, you will most likely be done early enough to join us at Liberty Station2101 Washington Ave, at 8 PM.  Their tap list has great variety for its size, they have a bar full of mixed drinks, and if you’re hungry, there’s probably a food truck outside (you are free to brown bag it as well).  (Note:  Liberty Station is dog-friendly.)

Monday, 14 January 2013: Down House, more or less

Down House SignJoin us tonight at Down House, 1801 Yale St., at 8:00 PM for a cocktail or beer, and grab some good grub if you’re peckish.  DH is in the dry part of the Heights, so make sure you bring your I.D. so you can join their club for the night (or your existing club membership card if you’ve been there recently).  Also, they have more parking on 18th half a block west of Yale, if the main parking lot is full.

This list may or may not reflect the actual list of beers you could select from.

Monday 7 January 2013: New Year, New Bar at Cottonwood

Celebrate a new year of the Diaspora by joining us at Cottonwood, 3422 N. Shepherd, in bucolic Garden Oaks, at 8 PM.

Cottonwood has been generating a lot of buzz recently, and several Diasporites have made advance visits (for science!) to make sure that it’s worthy of your attention.  Laid-back ambiance, plenty of parking, and comfortable seating options complement the very respectable beer list.  The food is pretty good if you’re peckish as well.  You might even see a familiar face or two among the staff from previous venues.

Some things to keep in mind:

  1. While Cottonwood is conveniently located just north of the Loop, it’s a bit tricky getting into their parking lot, as they’re effectively sited on a feeder to N Shepherd (this is Houston, after all: even our thoroughfares have feeder roads!). Check their site for more info, don’t just rely on Google Maps.
  2. The parking lot is gravel.
  3. Most of their seating is outside, but covered and heated.  We may be using some of that because
  4. Tonight is the BCS Championship, and every bar with a TV is likely to be busier than normal.
