the hay merchant craft food and beer houston txThe city still seems squeaky clean after the weekend’s rain, and most of the traffic lights are working again!  Celebrate with a pint at The Hay Merchant, 1100 Westheimer, at 8:00 PM.  Sample something from the 77 individually-regulated taps (including at least one nitro and 5 casks) or from the food menu.

This day in Texas history, 1856:  the first camels of the US Camel Corps arrive at Indianola, TX.  Contrary to popular belief, Slim Pickens is not in attendance.

Monday, 22 April 2013: Earth Day beers at Hans’ Bier Haus

Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on April 22nd, 2013

Hans' Bier HausStop by Hans’ Bier Haus2523 Quenby, at 8 PM tonight for a beer, some bocce ball, and some bench time on the deck. Park on the street and bring Rover if you want, as Hans’ is dog-friendly.  In keeping with Earth Day, we ask you only imbibe (responsibly, of course) beers that are made on Earth.  “Super Jupiter”, “New Planet”, “Midnight Sun”, “Biere de Mars”, etc., are right out.  “Flat Earth”, “Mother Earth”, “Middle Earth”, etc., would be preferable if available.  We do not recommend putting earth (or sand from the bocce ball court) in your beer.  That is all.

Monday, 15 April 2013: The Taxman Cometh to Cottonwood

Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on April 15th, 2013

2012-12-05 19.50.48Make sure you’ve filed your taxes and join us tonight to relax with a pint at Cottonwood, 3422 N. Shepherd, in somnolent Garden Oaks, at 8 PM. Here are a few tax-related songs to get you in the mood.

Some things to keep in mind:

  1. While Cottonwood is conveniently located just north of the Loop, it’s a bit tricky getting into their parking lot, as they’re effectively sited on a feeder to N Shepherd (this is Houston, after all: even our thoroughfares have feeder roads!). Check their site for more info, don’t just rely on Google Maps.
  2. The parking lot is gravel.
  3. Most of their seating is outside, but covered.

They also continue their reading series wherein local authors use their local voices to stimulate your global minds. You can find a nice pint and maybe something to nosh on. Texas pints are half off.  See you there at 8 PM.
