Stop by Local Pour, 1952 W Gray in the River Oaks Shopping Center, at 8 PM for a beer or something else.  There will be a jazz trio playing at some point during the evening.

Today in 1775, the Continental Army fought (and lost) the Battle of Bunker Hill.  On Breed’s Hill.  And nobody said anything about the whites of anybody’s eyes.

Today marks what would have been Maurice Sendak‘s eighty-fifth birthday.  Even if your name isn’t Pierre, you should care.

Tonight at MvsC, 1011 McGowan, there is absolutely nothing poetic happening, except for a nice pint or cocktail and maybe something to nosh on. Texas pints are half off.  We’re actually happy for the promise of a quiet evening, and would like to state for the proverbial record that the poet picked the fight with us last time.  With all apologies to Madeleine Peyroux, we’ll see you there at 8 PM.

On this date in 1926, Allen Ginsberg was born.  If it weren’t July June in Houston, we’d suggest a black mock turtleneck and a beret as attire for the evening.  Instead, just fire up the 10k Maniacs and snap your fingers.
