On this day in 1945, Marines from the 3rd Platoon, E Company, 2nd Battalion, 28th Regiment of the 5th Division take the crest of Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima‘s highest peak, and raise the U.S. flag. More than 6,000 Americans died taking Iwo Jima, and some 17,000 were wounded. Join us for a pint tonight at The Hay Merchant, 1100 Westheimer, at 8 PM, and raise a glass to commemorate.
