Monday, 9 March 2015: Ironclad drinks at Local Pour

Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on March 9th, 2015

Local PourOn this day in 1862, the USS Monitor faced the CSS Virginia (built from remnants of the USS Merrimack) in the Battle of Hampton Roads.  While both sides claimed victory, the battle was mainly significant for being the first meeting in combat of ironclad warships.  Upon hearing the news of the battle, the major naval powers (Britain and France) halted production of all wooden-hulled naval ships.

Commemorate this (wait for it) sea change tonight with us at 8 PM at Local Pour1952 W Gray St.
