Monday, 25 July 2016: Mongoose vs Cobra vs The Nixon Doctrine

Posted by mike | Beer, Meetings | Posted on July 25th, 2016

mvsclogoNote: early start tonight.

On this day in 1969, President Richard Nixon announced that from that day forward, the US would expect that its allies in Asia (read: South Vietnam) would be responsible for their own military defense except for the threat of a major power with nuclear weapons (read:China).  Thus began a draw down that led to America signing a peace treaty with North Vietnam in 1973 and the fall of Saigon in 1975.

Ponder this chain of events with us tonight at MvsC1011 McGowan, at 7:00 PM. Note that the parking situation in midtown is ever-evolving, so consult the handy-dandy, superific, MvsC-specific parking guide before you head that direction.  Fittingly, you are responsible for your own tabs and transportation.

Monday, 18 July 2016: Axelrad Fiddles While Rome Burns

Posted by mike | Beer, Meetings | Posted on July 18th, 2016

Axelrad Tap WallOn this day in 64 AD, The Great Fire of Rome began.  Emperor Nero famously blamed it on an obscure middle eastern religious sect who were becoming troublesome.

Join us at 8pm at Axelrad Beer Garden, 1517 Alabama, for pyromaniacal beers.  Axelrad features a great tap wall and pleasant outdoor seating (indoor seating is at a bit of a premium).  If you’re peckish, you can order some pizza from Luigi’s next door.  Check here for parking info.
