Monday, 26 January 2015: Foundational Beers at Cottonwood

Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on January 26th, 2015

2012-12-05 19.50.48On this day in 1788 Captain Arthur Phillip landed with eleven ships full of convicts and marines at Sydney Cove in New South Wales.  This represents the founding of a permanent British colony on the island of Australia, and is today celebrated as Australia Day.  On this day in 1950, the Indian constitution took effect, creating the Republic of India, the most populous democracy in the world.  It is celebrated there and in the (Indian) diaspora as Republic Day.  Celebrate both (or either) with us tonight at  Cottonwood Bar, 3422 N Shepherd Dr, at 8 PM.  We recommend a lager or an IPA in honor of the two great nations, but you have plenty of choices among the pints on the tap list, or perhaps a mixed drink and possibly enjoy a snack from the menu.

Monday, 22 September 2014: Beers for a Lost (be)cause at Cottonwood

Posted by john | Meetings | Posted on September 22nd, 2014

2012-12-05 19.50.48On this day in 2004, Lost premiered on ABC.  Six seasons of programming, ten years, and one really disappointing finale later, there are still unanswered questions.  It’s a cautionary tale to the viewing public today: regardless of what strange turn your new favorite show takes, breathe deeply, it’s only TV.  Tonight we celebrate the return of the regular fall TV season (whatever that means anymore) at  Cottonwood Bar, 3422 N Shepherd Dr, at 8 PM.  Schedule your DVRs before heading out to smartly-appointed Garden Oaks to have a pint or a mixed drink and possibly enjoy a snack from the menu.  Just don’t order any MacCutcheon whiksy.

2012-12-05 19.50.48On this day in 1836, the Texan Army routed Santa Anna’s forces at San Jacinto, effectively winning the war for Texas independence from Mexico.  “Remember the Alamo!” and “Remember La Bahia” or “Remember Goliad” were the battle cries.  If you haven’t visited the San Jacinto Monument in the however-many years you’ve lived in Houston, we highly recommend a field trip.

Monday, 5 August, 2013: Obiwankenobiphobia at Cottonwood

Posted by mike | Meetings | Posted on August 5th, 2013

2012-12-05 19.50.48On this day in 2000, Sir Alec Guinness became one with the Force.  Although its resemblance to Chalum’s Cantina at Mos Eisley is tenuous at best, Cottonwood Bar, 3422 N Shepherd Dr , seems like a good place to commerate.  White suits are not recommended, given the weather.  See you there, with Control’s blessing, at 8 PM.

Apologies to Dr. Jack Badofsky.
