Monday, 9 March 2015: Ironclad drinks at Local Pour

Local PourOn this day in 1862, the USS Monitor faced the CSS Virginia (built from remnants of the USS Merrimack) in the Battle of Hampton Roads.  While both sides claimed victory, the battle was mainly significant for being the first meeting in combat of ironclad warships.  Upon hearing the news of the battle, the major naval powers (Britain and France) halted production of all wooden-hulled naval ships.

Local PourOn this day in 1845, a majority of citizens in the independent Republic of Texas voted to approve a (US) state constitution.  Texas would become a state on 29th December of the same year.  Also on this day in 1950, Harvey was released to theaters in the US.  Join us tonight at Local Pour1952 W Gray St, at 8 PM. Local PourOn this day in 1835, the Texan Army took San Antonio from Mexico.  Although San Antonio would fall again to the Mexicans in March at the Alamo, the Texans would of course eventually win decisively at San Jacinto. Local PourStop by Local Pour, 1952 W Gray in the River Oaks Shopping Center, at 8 PM for a beer or something else.  There will be a jazz trio playing at some point during the evening.

Today in 1775, the Continental Army fought (and lost) the Battle of Bunker Hill.  On Breed’s Hill.  And nobody said anything about the whites of anybody’s eyes.
